Suitable for - y6-8 / Mixed Ability


Prior knowledge needed - some knowledge of 'connotations' and imagery is helpful but can be taught sufficiently at start of lesson.


Starter - Pupils to annotate the 5 images on starter worksheet; model this first using the appropriate slide; elicit responses for blank spaces 1-3 then press the space-bar to bring up exemplar annotations.  Feedback and discuss.


Main Task - Pupils to complete main task worksheet as per the example slide - design their own mascot and explain the connotations of their image (x2).


Plenary - Verbal feedback and peer assessment as per the plenary slide.
