Writing to describe...

Click the link below to find the first in a series of descriptive writing lessons based on our mythical island...

ISLAND LESSON 2 - DESCRIBE

Here, pupils describe the fateful plane crash which left them stranded.  The focus is on developing vocabulary skills and using sentence fragments and short sentences for dramatic impact.  You'll need a few class dictionaries for the starter.

This is especially great as pupils keep returning to update their diary each time something new happens on the island which encourages sustained and reflective writing.

Making actual 'diaries' for your pupils to write in really helps with motivation and is super easy - take 3 sheets of plan paper and fold them to create an A5 booklet; then take a coloured piece and fold this around the outside; stick a couple of staples in and pupils can then customise their diary cover for a homework (or, if you want, you can pre-copy whatever you want onto it).

Again, you don't need an SQLP as once you open the Powerpoint it's all self-explanatory but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Examples of these resources in action later in the week.

Enjoy!
